Why We Love It:
Sweet Pea ‘Blacknight’ is known for its dramatic, velvety blooms in deep maroon-purple and a powerful, classic scent. These climbing annuals are vigorous and floriferous, making them perfect for adding vertical interest and fragrance to any garden space. Excellent as a cut flower, they’ll reward you with more blooms the more you pick.
Planting & Care Tips:
When to Plant: Sow indoors from January to April or directly outdoors from March to May
Where to Plant: Sunny, sheltered spot with good support (trellis, netting, or canes)
Spacing: 20–25cm apart
Care Notes: Water regularly, feed with a high-potash fertiliser during flowering, and pinch out growing tips when plants are 10cm tall to encourage bushiness. Deadhead or pick regularly to promote continuous blooming
The Nunhead Gardener Recommends:
Ideal for planting near seating areas or entrances where you can enjoy their rich fragrance. Combine with other sweet pea varieties for a longer bloom window and colour contrast. Try training up obelisks in large pots for compact, dramatic displays on patios or balconies.
