Why We Love It:
Mesembryanthemum, or Livingstone Daisy, produces a carpet of vivid, jewel-toned blooms that open with the sun and close at dusk. This cheerful mix includes bright pinks, oranges, yellows, and whites—ideal for adding a splash of summer colour to hot, sunny spots. Compact and drought-tolerant once established, it’s perfect for low-maintenance gardening and looks especially striking cascading over pots or edging pathways.
Planting & Care Tips:
When to Plant: Sow indoors from February to April or direct sow after the last frost, typically from May onwards
Where to Plant: Choose a sunny, sheltered position in light, free-draining soil
Spacing: 15–20cm apart
Care Notes: Avoid overwatering and feed sparingly—these plants prefer lean conditions. Deadhead for continued flowering and best display
The Nunhead Gardener Recommends:
Pair with other sun-lovers like nasturtiums or alyssum for a colourful, drought-tolerant container. Great for brightening up balcony pots or raised beds in South London’s warmer corners.
