Description
If its flowers you’re after, then the Montana is the Clematis for you. A vigorous climber (reaching up to 10m high) this large deciduous climber is packed full of delightfully scented candy-pink flowers with yellow stamens from early summer. So abundant are the flowers that it almost seems like they outnumber the leaves – not only that, but the accompanying scent that fills the air is to die for.
A fast grower, Montana needs no encouragement to find its way up trellis, over a shed or even up through a tree. If you’re after a climber to hide an ugly wall or shed, then this is the one for you! On top of being visually stunning, it provides a welcome to bees and pollinators too.
Tinged with bronze, the juvenile foliage will mature to a dark green, providing great contrast to its flowers. Once the first flush of blooms are over, there’s often another smaller burst in autumn.
Once blooming finishes, we advise pruning your Montana to remove the dead wood and encourage new growth.
Happy in all soil types in sun or partial shade, this isn’t one to miss!
Note: reported to be toxic to dogs and cats.
