Why We Love It
‘Purple Sensation’ is one of the most reliable and easy-to-grow alliums, prized for its bold colour and architectural form. Planted in generous drifts, it creates a striking focal point in borders, especially when paired with tulips, ornamental grasses, or perennials like nepeta and salvia.
Its long-lasting blooms also make excellent cut flowers, adding drama and structure to floral arrangements indoors. As the flowers fade, their seed heads remain ornamental, extending visual interest well into summer.
How to Plant & Grow
• Plant from September to December before the ground freezes.
• Choose a sunny, well-drained spot; alliums dislike heavy, wet soil.
• Plant bulbs 15cm deep and space 15–20cm apart.
• Water well after planting, but avoid waterlogging.
• Allow foliage to die back naturally to nourish the bulbs for next year.
