Why We Love It
Allium sphaerocephalon is prized for its unique, oval flower heads that resemble tiny drumsticks. The blooms sway elegantly in the breeze and bring structure and rhythm to planting schemes, particularly when grouped in generous clusters.
This versatile variety combines beautifully with ornamental grasses, perennials such as echinacea and salvia, or other alliums for a layered summer display. Long-lasting in both the garden and the vase, it’s an excellent choice for cutting gardens too.
How to Plant & Grow
• Plant from September to December before the ground freezes.
• Choose a sunny, well-drained site; alliums dislike heavy, waterlogged soil.
• Plant bulbs 8–10cm deep and 10cm apart.
• Water well after planting, but avoid overwatering.
• Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulb for next year.
