Calathea Orbifolia
Description
A decorative air-purifying plant with uniquely striped & rounded leaves. It is native to Bolivia in South America. Calathea Orbifolia are tropical plants with large beautiful green leaves which almost appear to have painted silvery-green stripes. The leaves gracefully fuel-up in the evenings and un-furl in the mornings. These beautiful indoor plants provide a colour filled focal point in any room. Similarly to other Calatheas, they need indirect light or light shade, a lot of humidity and constant soil moisture to thrive; so either keep them in a bathroom or kitchen or next to a humidifier. Light conditions: keep it happy and place in a spot with bright, indirect light. Please note: the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery pot). They do however make excellent potted plants and, if you wish to pot yours up, we do have a wide range of pots on our website to choose from. Please note: images show how this plant may look at various stages of maturity. The size you choose may look different.
Plant Care: does require care specifically to ensure that a humid environment is maintained. Remove dust with a damp cloth to unblock the leaves pores. This will help the plant breathe.
Watering: keep the soil moist but not soggy and do not allow to dry out. This plant should be misted regularly to recreate the effects of a humid environment.
Ideal location: bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, studies and bedrooms
Rate of growth: can grow relatively tall for a Calathea, up to 2.5ft
Temperature: keep at normal room temperature, this plant does not like sudden changes in temperature and will not cope with a temperature lower than 12°C.
Pets: this plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs
