Rhododendron Hybrid Red
Description
Position: partial shade
Soil: moist, well-drained, humus-rich, acid soil or ericaceous compost
Rate of growth: average
Flowering period: May to June
Hardiness: fully hardy
Big and bright orange-red trumpets, each with a lightly ruffled lip, form large, showy clusters at the tips of the stems in late spring and early summer. This show-stopping rhododendron makes a stunning stand-alone specimen, but can also be used to back a roomy, partially shaded border.
Garden care: Avoid planting too deeply. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of leaf mould around the base of the plant each spring.
