Magnolia stellata
Description
With its pure white star-shaped blooms and rounded bushy figure, Magnolia Stellatas are a fantastic shrub to behold not least because its gently fragranced flowers often appear before the leaves have formed. Blushed with pink the 10cm flowers are lightly scented and arrive in early spring.
As the leaves emerge, you’ll be presented with glossy dark green foliage that will last through spring summer and autumn before dropping for the winter.
Magnolias like the Stellata are very hardy but love to be in a sheltered spot away from harsh winds. They’ll grow well in sun or partial shade in moist but well drained soil. Mulch in spring and, although pruning isn’t essential, it’s always worth removing diseased or broken branches in summer.
