Sarracenia
Description
An insect-catching marvel with dramatic, tubular foliage, Sarracenia brings botanical theatre to windowsills and terrariums. Its sculptural pitchers lure, trap, and digest insects – a natural pest controller with flair.
Plants supplied in a growers pot, decorative pot not included.
Key Features & Care:
Light / Position: Full sun to bright light – a sunny windowsill or greenhouse is ideal
Water / Feed: Keep soil constantly moist with rainwater or distilled water; do not use tap water; no feeding required – it gets its nutrients from insects
Temperature / Humidity: Prefers cooler summers and a winter dormancy period around 5°C–10°C
Pet / Child Friendly: Safe to touch, but not edible – curious little fingers should admire from afar
Air purifying: Not a traditional air purifier, but helps manage insect pests naturally
Growth / Spread: Moderate growth; pitchers reach 20–40cm tall depending on variety
Geographic Origins: Native to North America, especially the southeastern United States
Care tips:
Place your Sarracenia in a sunny, humid spot and water only with rain or distilled water. Sit the pot in a shallow dish of water during active growth. In winter, allow the plant to rest in a cooler environment with reduced light and water. Never fertilise – it gets everything it needs from insects.
Why you’ll love it:
It’s a living curiosity and natural pest-buster in one – perfect for plant lovers who like something a little wild.
