Why We Love It
‘Night Owl’ is admired for its bold, velvety petals in shades of near-black purple, bringing an air of drama and sophistication to the garden. The ruffled blooms look stunning both in mixed borders and as a cut flower indoors.
As a bearded iris, it thrives in sunny, well-drained spots and naturalises beautifully over time, rewarding with ever more blooms each season. Pair it with lighter-toned irises, tall perennials, or ornamental grasses for a striking contrast.
How to Plant & Grow
• Plant from July to October for flowers the following spring.
• Choose a sunny, well-drained site, irises dislike heavy, wet soil.
• Plant rhizomes just below the soil surface, with the top slightly exposed.
• Space 30cm apart to allow for spreading.
• Water in well but avoid overwatering.
