Why We Love It:

‘Red New Ace’ is a remarkably reliable pepper variety, producing early and abundant harvests of thick-walled, sweet fruits that ripen to a rich red even in less-than-perfect summers. It’s a compact, bushy plant that’s perfect for pots and smaller gardens. Ideal for anyone wanting top-quality peppers without the long wait.

Sowing & Growing Tips:

  • When to Sow: Plant young plants outdoors from late May or once all risk of frost has passed

  • Germination Time: (For reference if sowing seeds) 14–21 days at 20–25°C

  • Where to Grow: Greenhouses, sunny patios, raised beds, or large pots

  • Care Notes: Water regularly to keep the compost evenly moist, feed weekly with a high-potash feed once flowering begins, and support plants with canes if needed. Pinch out the growing tip when plants reach about 20cm tall to encourage bushier growth.

The Nunhead Gardener Recommends:

Pair with basil and tomatoes for a Mediterranean container garden. Sweet Pepper ‘Red New Ace’ is superb when stuffed, roasted, or sliced fresh into colourful summer salads.
