Why We Love It:

Spinach is one of the easiest and most rewarding greens to grow, producing tender, vitamin-rich leaves in just a few weeks. Perfect for small gardens and urban spaces, it’s highly versatile — pick young leaves for salads or let them mature for hearty cooked dishes. Spinach thrives in cooler weather, making it ideal for spring and autumn harvests.

Sowing & Growing Tips:

  • When to Sow: Plant young plants outdoors from March to September for a continuous harvest

  • Germination Time: (For reference if sowing seeds) 7–14 days at 10–20°C

  • Where to Grow: Open ground, raised beds, containers, greenhouse

  • Care Notes: Water consistently to prevent bolting, especially during hot spells. Harvest outer leaves regularly to encourage new growth. Provide light shade during peak summer to extend the growing season.

The Nunhead Gardener Recommends:

Grow alongside radishes and lettuces for a quick and easy salad garden. Spinach is delicious wilted into omelettes, stirred into pasta dishes, blended into smoothies, or used raw in vibrant spring salads.
