Why We Love It:
‘Sugar Snap’ peas combine the best of garden peas and mangetout, producing crisp, juicy pods with a lovely sweet flavour. They are fast-growing, highly productive, and ideal for small spaces thanks to their vertical habit. Perfect for quick summer harvests, they’re a great crop for beginners and experienced gardeners alike.
Sowing & Growing Tips:
When to Sow: Plant young plants outdoors from March to June
Germination Time: (For reference if sowing seeds) 7–14 days at 10–20°C
Where to Grow: Open ground, raised beds, large containers with canes or trellis
Care Notes: Provide support early on with netting or twiggy sticks. Keep the soil moist, particularly during flowering and pod formation. Pick pods regularly to encourage continued cropping.
The Nunhead Gardener Recommends:
Grow alongside carrots and lettuces for a classic vegetable patch combination. ‘Sugar Snap’ peas are delicious raw in salads, lightly steamed for a sweet side dish, or quickly stir-fried with mint and lemon for a refreshing summer meal.
