Why We Love It:
‘White’ Pak Choi is a versatile and highly productive variety, offering a quick turnaround from planting to harvest. Its tender, succulent stems and mild, sweet flavour make it a must-have for Asian-inspired cooking. It’s perfect for small spaces and responds beautifully to successive sowings, giving you a steady supply throughout the summer.
Sowing & Growing Tips:
When to Sow: Plant young plants outdoors from April onwards, avoiding the hottest months to prevent bolting
Germination Time: (For reference if sowing seeds) 7–10 days at 15–20°C
Where to Grow: Open ground, raised beds, large containers
Care Notes: Keep soil consistently moist and provide some shade during very hot spells to prevent plants from bolting. Harvest young for tender stems, or allow to mature for larger, more robust plants.
The Nunhead Gardener Recommends:
Grow alongside spring onions and coriander for an instant stir-fry garden. ‘White’ Pak Choi is delicious quickly wilted in sesame oil, added fresh to noodle dishes, or lightly braised as a simple side.
