Sedum Makinoi – Tundra Tornado

SKU: 10000000000001043 Category:

With its juicy button-like leaves and pale red stems this succulent is a treat for the eyes. From the Crassulaceae family, it prefers bright but indirect light and can even be kept outside during the warmer months.

Also known as Japanese Stonecrop, they are low growing, and with trailing stems that reach up to 15cm in length, this is never the same plant twice – not least because when exposed to colder conditions or warmer sun, the leaves will usually develop a cute pinkish or maroon blush. At the centre of the plant the tighter clusters of leaves look almost like rosettes. Little yellow flowers should also sprout in summer.

With so much to offer visually – in such a neat package – they make great gifts. They’re very easy to care for too. Like most succulents, these Sedums prefer to dry out between watering. When you do give them a drink, they love to be saturated, and during spring and summer feed them monthly.

Hardy in sheltered positions, they can even survive outside and can be planted in rock and gravel gardens, on green roofs or even in hanging contatiners; and should survive all but the harshest frosts too.
