Description

Native to the rainforests of South East Asia Aglaonemas are real sun-lovers (unlike others in their family). Also known as ‘Chinese Evergreen’ they are considered as luck-bringing plants in some cultures. They also have great air purifying qualities and their delicately coloured variegated leaves, give them a stunning look.

Although they enjoy light, they’re best kept out of the direct sunlight as that can scorch their leaves. Being jungle dwellers, they also prefer higher humidity, which makes them ideal for bathrooms and kitchens. You can help create an optimum environment for them by including other plants in your display which will add to the humidity.

Their love of humid environments also extends to their soil and they do best when their soil is kept moist, however it shouldn’t be saturated or their roots will rot. Normal room temperatures are fine so long as they are stable – just be sure to keep them out of the way of draughts.

With their narrow, creamy, glossy leaves, they will add enjoyable decoration to any space. Typically, they grow up to 50cm in height, though they tend to be slower growing, so will remain manageable.
