Description
First created in Ohio in the 1930s, the George Henry Kern is a stunning hybrid of Magnolia Stellata and a Liliiflora – bringing together the best of both; in particular, wonderfully scented light rose-pink flowers that burst out from dark pink buds during an extended flowering period that lasts from April to June.
Hardy, with a slow growing and compact structure, and luscious deep green leaves, it’s easy to see why the George Henry Kern is popular with Magnolia lovers; its size being of particular advantage to those with smaller gardens. Maintaining it’s natural rounded shape with minimal pruning is another huge plus and this Magnolia will do well in a sheltered spot with a south or westerly aspect. Pollution tolerant, it’s a great choice for city gardens too.
A great choice next to an entrance, path or gateway where it’s scent can be enjoyed and can be grown either as a tree or tall shrub, though once planted, they don’t like to be moved.
